Leigh has been a part of our family for the better part of 10 years. She came to us on New Year’s weekend, a half german shepherd – half husky puppy, adopted from a local rescue group. Sweet, joyful, snuggly, and best friends with one of our cats.
We went on walks, went running, attempted bike riding only once, until we noticed a limp. She had some pretty awful bilateral hip dysplasia.
So we went swimming a few times, but mostly just let her be Leigh. You must understand that Leigh had an amazing gift. She loved. She loved every cat, every dog, and every foster dog that we brought home. When H was born, there was love like you have never known. She has slept outside of his room, ever since we moved him in to his own room (when he was 5 months old). She has loved H with every fiber of her furry being.
We knew that her life may be short, due to the hips being incredibly painful, but this past weekend she went into acute liver failure. I watched a former pet pass a painful death due to liver failure, and my husband and I agreed not to put her through that kind of agony. We allowed her to pass quickly, easily, and as painlessly as we could allow for her. I held her, whispered in her ears to let her know how special she was and what she meant to us. She was a gift to our family, and she will be greatly missed.
Rest In Peace, Leigh – 10/31/06 – 04/16/16
