Tonight’s run was a bit…blah. The two ladies that I was running with were quite lovely, but the run itself was a little uninspiring. My calf started seizing up about halfway through, but I toughed it out. Back to the beginning!!
I met N at my run on Tuesday a couple of weeks ago. She’s relatively new to running, and her friend G is just getting back in to it. So we did the turtle group 20/40 intervals (using a phone app that wasn’t working too well; time to get a Gym Boss!), and both ladies said that they felt like it was a good ratio and a good pace for them. I decided on a 2.5 mile circuit, and as they were both amenable, we headed out.
Funny moment! I tend to chew gum when I run, as it helps keep my mouth moist. N had seen me do this a couple of weeks ago, and has also started chewing gum when she works out. I offered G a piece, explaining why I chew gum, and she said “Sure! You’re the expert.” There was a gratuitous amount of internal laughing from me at that moment. I am hardly any sort of expert, much less a running expert. I do suppose that of the three of us, I have the most experience. Heh heh…expert.
We walked for about 5 minutes before starting the intervals. Our running pace was really slow, but not a single one of us is feeling the need to compete! I, personally, just want a pace that allows me to keep stacking on the miles. That’s all. So that’s what we did! Sadly, about halfway through my right calf started seizing up, reducing my overall enjoyment. Booo!!! But we finished, walking the last three-quarters of a mile (or so), as N’s legs were done. I’m hoping that she and G will be available to go next week as well, as they were quite fun to team up with. Fingers crossed!
So now I’m sitting on the couch, watching “Batman Returns,” while B massages my tight and painful calf. We had dinner together, now we’re enjoying a little snuggle time. I didn’t get to put H to bed tonight, but otherwise it has been a pleasant evening at home. Contentment can be so underrated.
I need a little advice, or at least your thoughts: I’m a little torn about my Thursday run. I really want to do it, but it’s also the night of one of my co-workers going away party. So, run? Or dinner and drinks with my new department? Any thoughts?
