Yesterday was uneventful in the world of fitness. It was a great day with my son, however. His dad, B, was at work, so he and I had fun watching Thomas the Tank and going to the playground. What you must understand, is that H, my son, is 15 months old. He found his running legs about a month ago, and has not sat down for anything but food and nap time since. Apparently, running is something that 18 month old children find natural, but 15 month old kids still crawl and walk primarily. Uh oh! Looks like I have a baby runner in the making!
I love watching H run. He moves on his tip toes, and rarely lands on his heels. He has his chest thrust forward, and has no fear of falling or injury. The down side is that he falls. A lot. Unless he’s very tired, he doesn’t cry and just gets back up to run some more. I love watching him! At the playground, the ground is covered with mulch which causes him problems with the whole running thing. He stumbles and falls, and then he gets mad. What does he do? He swipes at the ground until the offending ground cover is scattered. I must admit that I find this hilarious! He’s such a funny little soul.
Following that kiddo around the playground for 90 minutes should almost be considered a workout! There is the fear he’s gonna crawl somewhere that I can’t go, making sure he doesn’t face plant in to something hard, and trying to convince him that he can’t step off a two foot drop without help. I was worn out by the time we made it home! So I didn’t cross-train or go for a walk. Today, however, I’m starting the Bikini Body Mommy Challenge, which gives you high intensity training (HIT) intervals. There are arm curls, squat jumps, lunges, burpees (I hate these), planks, and so on. It’s a really good dynamic work out! I’m really cautious with my form, but I have to admit that I worry about people who have never had a personal trainer and are mimicking the movements without the knowledge about what their form should really look like. I’m trying to avoid injuries, and when you’re as heavy and out of shape as I am, it can be difficult. I have to remember to pay attention to what my body is telling me!
So that’s everything from me today. My feet feel good, I’m relatively well-rested, my dogs are (miraculously) behaving themselves, and B is at work, and H is at daycare before I head into work. I have to fold and put away laundry, vacuum the house, do my workout, eat lunch, put dinner for work together…it’s just another manic mommy, I mean Monday!
